Sadly today, British manufacturing and engineering industries can claim few
accolades and have long since lost status as world leaders. McConnel is an exception.
The company not only claims its place as the innovator of the first tractor-mounted
hedge cutting machine, but also as the world’s current leading producer of hedge
and verge mowing power arm technology.
The company takes pride in its British origins and the fact that its machines are
designed, manufactured, tested and despatched from McConnel’s large and impressive
production plant and head office in Ludlow, Shropshire, UK. This site has been home
to McConnel for nearly 60 years during which time the pursuit of design innovation
and the best of British manufacturing expertise has been encouraged to thrive. Today,
the production facility occupies nearly 200,000 square feet and is set on seven
acres of land.
Each week, more than 60 tonnes of steel is delivered to the factory solely for the
production of power arms and more than 40 of these advanced machines are manufactured
and quality tested before distribution. Using the finest raw materials, best production
practices are engrained throughout the workforce and there is a genuine belief on
the factory floor that every individual is contributing to a product that the UK
can be extremely proud of.
